The Evil Queen questions
May. 4th, 2013 07:19 pmMaybe it's a bit late for speculations, but I have so many things I'm wondering about with this episode, so, why not?
1. Why is there a self-destruction button built into the curse? Who did that? Rumple wanted the curse to happen more than anyone, so he wouldn't have wanted it to be undone (unless he originally thought he'd be outside of Storybrooke by the time it ever got triggered and that'd be different?), and if he knew it was there, why didn't he ever go looking? And Regina sacrificed the one person she loves most for it, it'd be weird if the one thing she changed after he gave it to her was the possibility to reset it if she changes her mind later (and she's generally not one for intricate contingency planning...). Does Maleficient have anything to do with this? Or is this simply something none of them had any control over?
(But I'm getting this right, and Regina wasn't lying that those were her plans? And if so, does she still have that thing? And would it have worked even while there was no magic in Storybrooke?)
2. Why did Rumple put that spell on Regina? Just so she'd make another deal or/and see that people hate her, or did he expect her to meet Snow? If he knew that Snow would be there if/when Regina got herself into trouble, that'd be a pretty huge risk – they could have made up – and if he didn't, he was taking his sweet time saving Regina, which seems pretty risky too.
3. And speaking of Regina's transformation, is it just a thematic parallel that Regina loses her magic in both worlds, or is that science Greg and Tamara use something similar to Rumple's spell? Was her losing her magic something Rumple controlled, or does the spell work that way like it or not (have we seen Cora use magic while transformed, other than to change back?). And, am I remembering this right and this episode was the first time we see Regina use that transformation spell?
4. Of course, there's always the question of what exactly Greg and Tamara are after. They're collecting all the magical creatures...? (Good move not monologuing about your evil plan, in any case...)
5. I found the Hook-Regina scenes very intriguing (and it's great to have Hook around again); I wonder, is there any chance he would have stuck with her if she hadn't betrayed him first? And is any of what he says about Cora true at all, or is that all just for Regina's sake (he doesn't really have that much to gain from lying if he's planning to betray her later, Regina wanting that cuff didn't seem to hinge on it, but I figure that trying to seduce people is simply his default)?
6. So, Neal/Emma, ever going to happen again? For the last few episodes I was expecting it, but now, with them confronting the possibility so clearly, I'm less sure. (I liked seeing Emma and Henry hang out like that, makes me feel nostalgic.)
7. What was Regina and Snow's relationship most likely like all those years? How close were they ever? Did Regina ever care for her specifically, or does her forgiveness only matter, now, because it'd be particularly symbolic?
