Hey! I hope it's okay to post something that's bit of an introduction post; thing is, I'm very new to the fandom (I skipped a few episodes atm), and even after I'd found the show I couldn't watch the episodes right when they aired, so I missed the immediate discussion posts everywhere. Now I'm wondering if any of you have/want to discuss any theories about those three things, or if you know what the most wide-spread theories that already exist are:



- What exactly went down between Cora and Rumplestiltskin? I think it's been confirmed that she's the miller's daughter from the original fairy tale, so clearly he wanted Regina and then Cora got to keep her after all, but other than that? She's talking about deals she had to make to get her family where it is, and she and Rumplestiltskin can't just have met a few times, and I wonder how much of her fucked-up-ness is his fault, if any. Did he intent to groom her to cast his curse and tried to steal her baby when that somehow failed? Or did it happen exactly like in the tale, with the gold spinning and everything, and if so, is Regina's really friendly father the guy she got to marry, or...?
(In any case, I'm really looking forward to Cora meeting everyone again...)

- What is August doing? I don't just mean "what's in the box", but what's supposed to be so helpful about separating Neal from Emma? And, did he get Henry to Regina? And what did Rumplestiltskin think he was doing when he got Henry, assuming he didn't have his memories at the time? (Has it been confirmed that he didn't? I remember reading they said in an interview that he remembered when Emma came along and wanted her name for that purpose, and that fits with his first conversation with Regina after Emma's arrival, but I don't think there's anything in canon that really makes it clear?)

- Do we know if there's any reason why Rumplestiltskin couldn't have used the tree/wardrobe to travel between worlds himself?



Also, does anyone have fic-recs, or links to rec-lists? My favourite relationships are between Rumplestiltskin+Regina and Rumplestiltskin+Emma (I ship them too, but that's secondary), but anything that's particularly well-written or close to canon or interesting...?

I would love to see some more Cora and Rumple backstory, because it's bound to be interesting. They are both *so screwed up*.

As for Rumplestiltskin using the tree/wardrobe: that is an awesome point! Maybe his magic isn't compatible with fairy magic?

Given Rumple's antagonism with the Blue Fairy/nuns of Storybrooke, it may well be in part that his magic is not compatible with fairy magic. (Or that may just be because of Bae, and the bean portal....)

Yes! I'm really curious about Cora's past in general; she was just an effective villain to me in her first appearance, so I love how much I've come to really care about her.

I hadn't thought of that, about incompatibility! He even says something about their magic not meshing well with what he is when Bea first brings up his plan at the time I just figured he's looking for reasons to get out of the whole thing more than anything else. I hope that maybe they'll explain it, because the ease with which people are hopping back and forth between worlds is starting to make me question Rumplestiltskin's competence. XD

Just a quick thought- if his magic is not compatible with fairy magic, how was he able to use the fairy dust/crystals on the portal in the last episode? Or is it something my pre-coffee hazed mind cannot see?

Maybe he doesn't have quite the same limitations in "our" world? He's still looking like a regular human too. Though maybe that's a bit convoluted. (In any case, I love the scene where he does that. \o/ )

I'd be very surprised if we find out he intended to use Cora to cast the curse. He was shocked that Cora had produced such a sweet, gentle and not-at-all power hungry daughter. That says to me that Cora was, if not evil, certainly power hungry herself from the beginning. And Rumpel would know someone like that wouldn't be interested in going to a land without magic.

As far as Rumpel's memories - that has not been made clear in the show so far. (though it could be in future) If you don't listen to podcasts or read interviews it would be easy to assume he knew all along. He does react to Emma's name but that could be 'hey I REMEMBER' or 'hey Emma is HERE, time to have fun.'

I have a theory that the wardrobe only works to bring you to our world because the curse created a connection between the worlds. So without the curse there would nothing to pull the people of FTL here. Of course that's all head canon and it hasn't been addressed in the show at all.

I thought his surprise at Regina being nice might just have been the beginning of his telling her she actually wants to be a terrible person. That makes sense though. But Rumple must have had some reason to even teach her, or else she must have tricked him into it somehow. :/

Ah, thanks! I was wondering if I'd missed something.

I like that theory! (I like anything that'd mean that "our" world was very strongly cut off from FTL until the curse.)
